Orange County CCW Class

Inland Firearms Training is now approved to conduct the required class required by the Orange County Sheriffs Department to obtain your Concealed Carry Weapons Permit (CCW).

The Initial CCW class is a two-day, 16 hour course.

Day one is all classroom, DONE ONLINE where we ensure that the student comes away knowledgeable about handguns, related equipment, safe gun-handling habits and standards, and shooting skills.

We discuss and demonstrate all that we can in a classroom environment, free of distractions, well-lit, and climate controlled to ensure a solid foundation of understanding. Items covered include:

  • Safety rules
  • Common mistakes people make
  • Handgun types and functions, strengths and weaknesses
  • Fundamentals of shooting
  • Drawing and recovering to the holster
  • Reloading types and techniques
  • Unsupported Shooting
  • Clearing malfunctions
  • Engaging multiple targets
  • Shooting on the move
  • Target-focused shooting
  • Other shooting positions
  • Care, cleaning and maintenance
  • California Law as it relates to possession, transport, and carriage
  • The use of a handgun for self-defense, including;
    • Justification for deadly force
    • Property Claims
    • What to do if involved in a shooting
    • Post-shooting trauma
    • Interaction with Law-Enforcement
  • Places where firearms are prohibited
  • Travelling with handguns
  • Responsibilities when armed
  • Methods for de-escalating confrontations
  • Home storage requirements and penalties
  • Range Safety rules
  • Range commands

Day Two is spent on the range, initially practicing basic gun-handling skills with empty weapons until safe gun handling is assured, and then all of the skills discussed and demonstrated in the classroom are reviewed and practiced with live fire.

Students are worked with one-on-one with experienced Law-Enforcement instructors while errors are identified and corrected.

Using the building-block technique, students reinforce what they’ve done as they continue to learn new procedures and techniques. They are continuously encouraged and rewarded by improved performance.

In addition to ensuring a solid foundational knowledge of the reason behind the techniques they learn, we also explain other techniques that are taught by other trainers across the country that have safety or tactical flaws, and help them sort out what makes the most sense.

Our students leave us fully capable of determining if something being taught to them is sound or not. Additionally, they leave very comfortable and highly competent with their weapon system, and know when to use it as well as when to leave it holstered and be a good witness.

The CCW Renewal class is a maximum 4-hour course

  • California Law as it relates to possession, transport, and carriage
  • The use of a handgun for self-defense, including;
