The Intermediate Handgun Training Class

The Intermediate Handgun Class class is for the Basic class graduate or anyone with experience with handguns.  Basic working knowledge of firearms, firearm safety, and shooting fundamentals are a prerequisite.

We will be reinforcing all of the safety principles that we teach in our basic class, as many shooters take the basic class, and then allow a substantial amount of time to pass before they continue. Being a perishable skill, safe gun handling must be practiced and reinforced. This class is an affordable, safe, and gently paced opportunity for the new shooter to learn, ask questions, and make mistakes in a guided and safe environment free from prejudice and elitism. In this class, we strive for an even balance of education, discussion, and skill acquisition. It is a hands-on training that uses a calm tempo and attention to detail.

The Intermediate Pistol class is designed for those who want to increase their knowledge, experience, and skill level with handguns, either their own or if the student has not purchased one yet, they may rent one of ours, to help them determine what is a good “fit” for them before they make a purchase.

Students who have taken our Basic Course have learned quite a bit about the many handguns available on today’s market, the differences between them, how to determine which ones fit them, and which ones make good choices.  A natural next step is the all-important purchase.  Once this is accomplished, the new handgun owner must become comfortable with their new firearm, and master the fundamentals.

For those who have not settled on a particular handgun, we offer those in our sizable collection for them to try, at a minimal charge.  The student will need to supply the ammunition. 200 rounds of Ball ammo (round nose, full metal jacket aka “inexpensive”) will be needed.

There are many factors that can keep a shooter from achieving the level of comfort and accuracy that they desire, and, because of our experience, we know them all.  In addition, we have a “Bag of Tools” developed over decades for dealing with these habits and errors, to facilitate their elimination, thereby allowing our students to progress to the level that they are capable of.

A supervised and coached live-fire exercise ensures students properly grasp all learning objectives, including improved accuracy, gun handling, and marksmanship.

Speed and accuracy are the basics of the time spent on the range.  The lecture will be about one hour and range time will be about three hours.  Students should bring 200 rounds of ammunition, their own handgun (or rent one of ours).  This class will help you become a more skillful shooter while increasing your confidence.

We can provide ear and eye protection, although students are encouraged to bring their own if they have them.

We conduct this class once a month (see the Calendar of Courses) at the Lytle Creek Firing Line Range. The range is at the very end of the paved road, which is about 12 pleasant minutes from the 15 Freeway. Our staff will be waiting for you when you drive in the gate.

Upon Successful Completion of this class, a Certification Card will be awarded from Inland Firearms Training.  This course will allow you to pursue more advanced levels of training.
Also dependent upon the scheduled course start & stop time you may wish to bring snacks and water for yourself.
